In the Valley of Gods is an indie first-person adventure video game that has been suspended indefinitely. It was developed by the American company Campo Santo in 2016-2019. The publisher was planned by Valve for Microsoft Windows, macOS and Linux.

Plot[]

The game is set in Egypt in the 1920s. The main character, cinematographer Rashida, goes to the desert in search of an "incredible archaeological find"; Rashida has disgraced herself in some way in the past, and for her, this journey is her last chance to rebuild her reputation. Rashida is accompanied by another woman named Zora, a former partner with whom the heroine "promised herself never to work with",

Development[]

The game was announced at The Game Awards in December 2017; in the first trailer for the game, the heroines with cameras make their way through ancient ruins and meet the dawn.

The release of the game was scheduled for 2019, but development was slowed down due to the takeover of Campo Santo by Valve and the transfer of employees to other projects such as Half-Life: Alyx, Dota Underlords; at the end of 2019, studio co-founder Jake Rodkin announced that In the Valley of Gods had been postponed indefinitely, although not cancelled.

In January 2023, a new release date for the game was set on the game's Steam page as December 2029 but no official announcements were received from the studio.
